Understanding MuraAbout Mura
How is Mura different from a cuff or smartwatch?
Compared with a cuff: Mura is designed for day-and-night tracking, showing how blood pressure changes around sleep, meals, stress, and movement—without inflating a cuff for every reading.
Compared with a smartwatch: Many watches use optical sensors at the wrist to track your pulse. Mura uses ultrasound at the upper arm to follow arterial motion, with a dedicated focus on blood pressure. Its screen-free design complements your watch, with insights in the Mura app.
A validated cuff is expected for initial setup; occasional recalibration may also be needed.
How accurate is Mura?
Mura is engineered for accurate blood-pressure tracking. Its ultrasound sensor is designed to follow arterial motion directly, providing the signal used to estimate blood pressure.
Wearable ultrasound has already shown strong results in clinical research. A study in Nature Biomedical Engineering reported a sensor that met the clinical accuracy criteria evaluated by the researchers. That study tested a separate device.
Mura’s own validation is underway. We’ll publish its accuracy results, test conditions, and limitations before shipping.
Who is Mura designed for?
Mura is designed for adults who want to understand their blood-pressure patterns and how they relate to everyday life.
It is not intended for emergency monitoring, diagnosis, or medication decisions, and does not replace medical care. Testing will establish supported arm sizes and other suitability limits. We’ll explain these before you complete your purchase.
Wearing & using MuraWearing Mura
What is Mura like to wear?
Mura sits around your upper arm in an adjustable band, designed to maintain contact without the repeated inflation and squeezing of a traditional cuff.
Comfort during everyday activities and sleep is a core design requirement. We’re also developing a sensing interface that avoids conventional loose ultrasound gel. Final fit and wear guidance will be available before shipment.
Will I still need a cuff?
You should expect to need access to a validated upper-arm cuff. Initial setup is expected to require a cuff reading, with occasional recalibration potentially needed afterward. A cuff is not included in the Mura kit.
You won’t need to inflate a cuff for every Mura measurement. Testing will determine the calibration process and frequency. We’ll confirm the requirements and compatible-cuff guidance before you complete your purchase.
Can I exercise, shower, or swim with Mura?
Exercise: Mura is intended for everyday activity and exercise. Vigorous movement can affect signal quality, so not every moment will produce a reliable reading.
Showering and swimming: Water resistance is still being tested. We’ll publish specific guidance once testing of the production device is complete.
How long does the battery last?
Our current development targets are:
- Up to five days of battery life.
- A recharge in approximately 80 minutes using a magnetic USB-C cable.
These are not confirmed production specifications. Battery life will depend on use, and we’ll confirm final performance before shipment.
The app & your dataThe app & your data
Which phones work with Mura?
Our compatibility targets are iOS 17 or later and Android 12 or later. The Mura app will be required for setup and viewing your data.
Mura is being developed to store measurements when your phone is out of range and sync when it reconnects. Final compatibility and offline recording capacity will be confirmed through testing before launch.
What will the app show me?
The app is designed to show your blood-pressure readings, daily and overnight patterns, and changes from your usual baseline.
Automatic context and manual logging are planned to help you explore patterns around sleep, exercise, meals, caffeine, alcohol, and stress. Use these insights to compare routines and inform conversations with your healthcare professional. A pattern can suggest a connection; it does not prove what caused a change.
How is my data protected and managed?
Mura will never sell your health data or use or share it for advertising. Optional research or model training, including de-identified contributions, will require a separate opt-in. Declining will not restrict the core experience.
The app will include free measurement exports and a way to request account and data deletion. Encryption during storage and transfer, limited access, and checks on service providers are launch requirements; implementation is still in development.
Read our app privacy commitments for the details we’ll confirm before collecting app health data.
